How does Spaceship calculate the courier fee?

The courier fee varies based on these factors:

The courier company and service that you choose during booking.

The parcel volumetric weight or actual weight, whichever is higher.
Courier fee will be affected by the area occupied in the airplane and volumetric weight is used by couriers to calculate the fee by the parcel’s volume.
The calculation of volumetric weight is as below.
Length x Width x Height (cm)/5,000

How does Spaceship charge?

Spaceship will have different pricing scheme base on different courier services.

Situation 1) If you choose to book one of these couriers through Spaceship from Hong Kong to another country and choose to use the door-to-door pickup service

  • When you successfully reserved a shipment booking on Spaceship, you will receive a booking confirmation email. At the same time, Spaceship will charge the payment through the registered credit card based on the information provided by users during booking.
  • After courier staff finished door-to-door pickup, Spaceship will measure the weight and size of your parcel again in the fulfilment centre. If the difference between your estimation and the exact figures is too large, Spaceship will notify you about the transaction adjustment through email or SMS. 
  • If your parcel arrives at the destination and customs of the destination country require you to pay the tax, the parcel recipient will be notified by customs of the destination country. 
  • If there are other charges or additional fees, for example, service charge of courier during peak period and special condition, administration fee and missing item declaration fine etc., Spaceship will notify you through email or SMS.

Situation 2) If you choose to book one of these couriers through Spaceship from Hong Kong to another country

Or all parcel sending from another country to Hong Kong;

Or booking services of UPS, FedEx, SkyNet and choose to drop-off at their offline stores.

  • When you successfully reserved a shipment booking on Spaceship, you will receive a booking confirmation email. At the same time, Spaceship will charge the payment through the registered credit card based on the information provided by users during booking.
  • After the delivery, courier companies need around 3-4 weeks to make the transaction amendment with Spaceship. When we receive the report from the courier companies, we will ask for additional fees or refund. At the same time, there will be a final receipt sent to your email.
  • If there are other charges or additional fees, for example, service charge of courier during peak period and special condition, administration fee and missing item declaration fine etc., Spaceship will charge you through the registered credit card and list them in the final receipt.

Shipment Transaction Amendment Situations

  • The difference will automatically refund to the registered credit card and Spaceship will send a new receipt to you at the same time.
  • If the difference between your estimation and the exact figures is too large, Spaceship will notify you about the transaction adjustment through email or SMS.
  • Within 3 days after receiving the message, the sender can choose “Agree with the transaction adjustment and ship the parcel” and the shipping difference will be charged through the registered credit card. If the sender chooses “Disagree with the transaction adjustment and arrange parcel return”, the parcel will be returned to the sender and the shipping fee will be refunded to the registered credit card after deducting the handling charges.
  • Sender needs to reply within 3 days after receiving the transaction adjustment message. If not, the parcel will be sent automatically and the shipping difference will be charged through the registered credit card directly.
  • If there are other additional fees, for example, service charge of courier during peak period and special condition, administration fee and missing item declaration fine etc. Spaceship will list them all in the final recipe.

 

  • When you received the final recipe and have any questions, please contact Spaceship and we will follow up with the courier for you.

How can I ask for an appeal after a shipment transaction amendment?

  • You should ask for an appeal within 30 calendar days after receiving the final receipt.
  • Please provide the actual size(length, width, height) and weight of the parcel. 
  • The difference between the adjusted weight and the estimated one should be larger than 1kg; or the difference between the adjusted transaction price and the estimated one should be more than HK$50.

  2. Spaceship will send a confirmation email to confirm that we have received the form (It takes 3-5 working days)
  3. Spaceship will send an email attaching the courier company’s transaction and weight measurement reference (It takes 3-5 working days)
  4. If you still have any questions and concerns regarding the charge of the courier company, you must reply to the email within 5 working days to notify us so that we can help follow up with the courier company for you. 
  5. Spaceship will send an email to inform you of the shipment transaction amendment appeal result. (It takes 20-30 working days)
  6. If the appeal is unsuccessful, Spaceship will end the follow-up steps for the case. 
  7. If the appeal is successful, Spaceship will send you an updated receipt with the final order amount and inform the bank for the refund at the same time. (It takes 30-45 working days)
  8. Banks usually need 5-10 working days to complete the amount transfer and then you will receive the refund through the registered credit card.

How can I pay after booking a shipment on Spaceship?

Spaceship only accepts payments by physical credit card launched by banks and do NOT accept payments by prepaid credit card (for example, O!ePay) or debit card.

Questions about tax

  • No matter what is your parcel content, your parcel must go through the import process, and the customs of the destination country will decide whether or not you need to pay taxes and the amount of taxes to be paid;
  • As all tariff details are determined by the customs of the destination country, details of the tax amount need to be confirmed after the parcel arrives in the destination country.
  • Customs usually determines the amount of tax and customs clearance procedures according to the factors like the shipping origin, the value of the items in the parcel, the purpose of shipment, the type and quantity of the goods etc.
  • For the parcels that the customs of the destination place decide to be tax-payable, they must pay the customs duties before they can be released.
  • After customs determine the tax amount, they will contact the recipient. to complete the payment.
  • If the recipient refuses to pay the tax, the parcel needs to be sent back to the sender and the sender needs to be responsible for all extra charges.

  •  Hong Kong is a free port. Generally, many goods are not required to pay customs duties when they are imported to Hong Kong.

  • There are 4 types of dutiable commodities which are subject to excise duties, including liquors, tobacco, hydrocarbon and methyl alcohol.

  • All payable taxes are automatically set to be paid by the recipient.
  • If after the parcel has arrived at the destination country, you refuse to pay the tax, the parcel then cannot pass through the customs clearance successfully, you then need to pay extra charges and send the parcel back to the sender.
  • When declaring the parcel content, you must specify the name of the items in the parcel, instead of just declaring it as “gift”.
  • Whether the parcel purpose is “gift” or not, it must go through the import and customs clearance process determined by the customs law of the receiving country.

Apart from courier fee, there may be extra charges under the following situation.

  • Under all circumstances, when you have to end the delivery or return the parcel, the sender has to be responsible for all the related extra charges.
  • Remote area of the chosen courier company
  • Residential area

– These fees may not be included in the quotation and there may be courier fee amendment after notification from the courier company.

  • Customs of the destination country and the courier company have the right to charge fine from the sender. All fines, handling fees, administration fees are determined by them.
  • Please check whether your parcel included any items in the Forbidden Item List.
